wishing v hoping

“I like it when you’re full of hope.”
Secretly I think I am always full of hope,
but then
what is the difference between hoping and wishing?

To me,
a wish is something tangible,
something that can be achieved
or something that can happen.
A hope is something wider-reaching,
a small speckle of starlight
cast out into the world.

I wish for my friends
to be able to do whatever they want in life.
I hope my friends are happy and healthy no matter what.

I wish my parents
would take a break before they work themselves sick.
I hope my parents are proud of me.

I wish that I could do more to earn forgiveness.
I hope I find the strength to keep going in the meantime.

I wish those I love know how I feel.
I hope they feel something in return.
