“Comparison is the thief of joy”
is just a saying that encourages mediocrity
and tells people that it’s okay to settle for
third
fourth
fifth best
(if you’re lucky).
I have tasted magic on your lips
and seen starlight in your eyes
and heard choirs of angels in your laugh
and I am addicted to your perfection
and I am no longer able to tolerate average
and you are the impossible benchmark,
completely unreachable,
the whole game is rigged in your favour and no-one will ever come close to winning.
They say “take what you’re given and be grateful”
but how can I be grateful when
my brain and body and heart and soul begs for yours?
I am obsessed and all I can do
is hope that you are content to settle for
mediocre.
